LIGHT UP LA GRANGE SCHEDULE

Light Up is next Saturday, December 2nd. Our generous sponsors include La Grange Tourism, German American Bank, LG & E, Southeast Christian Church La Grange, Oldham Chamber and Economic Development, Sligo Baptist Church, Ashland Church, and more. The entire community comes out to celebrate the start of the Christmas season including the local fire departments and police departments, the public library, and the list goes on and on! Living in small town America is the best! 

One of the highlights of Christmas in downtown La Grange is the storefront decorating contest. Visit the stores and vote for your favorite starting December 1st at lagrangemainstreet.org. The store owner will receive a $200 prize and lots of publicity for their effort to delight you. 


Here is the current schedule of events for Light Up La Grange:

Friday, Dec. 1st. - Movie at Southeast La Grange - doors open at 6pm. 


Saturday, Dec. 2nd

7am - 10 am Breakfast with Santa at Hometown Pizza to support the local La Grange Elementary School.


9am - 11am A morning with the Grinch at the Oldham County History Center. The cost is $3 or 1 new unwrapped gift.


10am - 9pm La Grange Railroad Museum & Learning Center OPEN.


10 am - 9pm SHOP, EAT, EXPLORE, AND PLAY in downtown La Grange!


3pm Shop With a Trooper 5K run on Main Street. Register at Sligo Baptist Church.


3pm Oldham County Community Band at Rob Morris Ed Center on History Center Campus.


3 pm Reindeer hat making at Judith M. Millinery on Main Street. 


3pm- 9pm Winter Market including many of our Farmer’s Market and Artisans vendors in CityPlace’s Pavilion 2


3pm - 9pm Live Music at The Gatewood on Main Street. 


3pm - 9pm Candy-cane making at City Place Pavilion 1. Sponsored by Oldham Chamber and Economic Development. 


3pm - 9pm Food Trucks at Walnut and on Washington. 


3pm - 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm - 8pm Live Nativity at CityPlace thanks to DeHaven Baptist, Ballardsville Baptist, and Ashland Church.

 

3pm - 5pm Christmas crafts, reindeer food making, cookie decorating and more at Spring’s Park Farmers’ Market Pavilion provided by The Oldham County Public Library and the OC Headstart Program. 


5pm Centerfield Elem Choir at Springs Park and OCMS Band at Rob Morris Ed Center


3pm - 9pm Children’s activities along the AlleyLoop on Poplar Alley by Ashland Church. 


3pm - 9pm Outdoor yard games at Emerge Escape Rooms 


5:30pm LIGHT UP CEREMONY at Walnut and Main Street. We will honor our local hero, LMPD Officer Nickolas Wilt at this ceremony.


6pm Santa arrives on a fire truck. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be taken to the Dahlgren Pioneer Barn on the History Center campus and stay there until 9pm for children to get a picture and share their Christmas letters. 

The biggest event of the year is almost here! We could not do it without our generous sponsors including La Grange Tourism, German American Bank, LG&E, and Southeast Christian Church La Grange. 


The fun will begin on December 1st, with a movie at Southeast Christian La Grange. Doors open at 6pm and the movie begins at 6:30 pm. 


Saturday, Dec. 2nd, you have the opportunity from 7am - 10 am to eat breakfast with Santa at Hometown Pizza, with all the proceeds going to the La Grange Elementary School. Then head over to have another breakfast from 9am - 11am at the Oldham County History Center with The Grinch. The cost is $3 with all the proceeds supporting the history center. 

The Shop With a Trooper 5K is set for 3pm. This family friendly event starts on Main Street. Two-thirds of the proceeds benefit The Kentucky State Police Shop with a Trooper program for local kids at Christmas time. One-third goes to mission scholarships for those needing help to go and serve on mission trips from Sligo Baptist. Register at Sligo Baptist’s website. 


Spend your day downtown eating, exploring, playing, and shopping before all the activities begin at 3pm. Winter Market will be in CityPlace’s Pavilion 2. Many of these vendors are Farmers’ Market and Artisans’ businesses. The Oldham Chamber and Economic Development will provide Candy-cane making in Pavilion 1 from 3 - 8pm. Sponsors include The Springs of Oldham Reserve, Dairy Queen, and Just Be Claus Candy-cane making. There will also be food trucks at CityPlace. 

Several local churches including DeHaven Baptist, Ballardsville Baptist, and Ashland Church will be working together to provide a LIVE NATIVITY at CityPlace from 3 - 5:30 pm and 6:30 - 8pm. 


In the Farmers’ Market Pavilion, there will be entertainment and more activities including cookie decorating, crafts, and reindeer food preparations provided by The Oldham County Public Library and the OC Headstart Program. 

Ashland Church will have activities near AlleyLoop on Poplar Alley. There will be food trucks on Walnut. Emerge Escape Rooms at 305 East Main will have outdoor yard games. Just a little farther down East Main, the La Grange Railroad Museum will also have fun activities for the family. 


At 5:45, Mayor John Black and the City Council members, along with the Chair of Light Up and a member of our board, Heather Smith, will be on stage. We will introduce this year’s Super Star who we will honor, and we will flip the switch and Light Up La Grange just before Santa arrives on a fire truck around 6pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be taken to the Dahlgren Pioneer Barn on the History Center campus and stay there until 9pm for children to greet and share their Christmas wish list. 


STOREFRONT DECORATION COMPETITION

Any time before Dec. 1st, you can vote for the storefront you like best by posting a pic in front of the store and tagging that business on your social media page on Facebook or Instagram. Be sure to also use #ChristmasinLaGrangeKY. At midnight on December 1st, the store with the most tagged pictures will win a prize valued at $200! The winner will be announced from the stage at Light Up on December 2nd at 5:45 pm. 


MAIN STREET DETAILS

There are a few changes you will notice on a drive down Main Street. There are new lights hanging in front of Mainly Creative and Brakeman’s Cottage. Our office and the Welcome Center has a new sign out front. The La Grange Railroad Museum 1929 Dining Car has ADA accessibility and is newly painted. The 94 year old train car has been fully renovated. Congratulations to Bob Hamilton and team for a job well done! La Grange Tourism provided the funds for the renovation. You will also see that the county courthouse is progressing and is an impressive addition to Main Street La Grange.
